Frequently Asked Questions
I edit using the Track Changes function of Microsoft Word. You’ll be able to see all of the changes that I make and accept or reject them.
If a substantial change is needed, I’ll leave a comment for you in Microsoft Word.
Certain nonfiction projects come to me as pdfs. In that case, I’ll add comments to the document.
I proofread and copyedit academic papers, such as dissertations, journal articles, and theses, and other nonfiction publications, such as reports and grant proposals. I also meet clients virtually in live sessions to help them improve their writing skills.
Editing costs $35 per hour. Live sessions also cost $30 per hour.
Note that there’s a $5/hour discount for students working on academic papers and paying for their own editing.
I send invoices through Honeybook. You can use a credit card, debit card, or bank transfer. HoneyBook is a safe payment processor, and I’ll never have access to your account data.
For one-time projects, I ask for half of the estimated payment upfront and the rest of the actual cost when I send the project.
In the case of ongoing edits, payment is due upon receipt. I’ll send your document as soon as I’m done editing it (I won’t hold it until I receive payment), but I will wait to begin more edits until I have the previous payment.
If you’re writing a paper and need more time, please let me know as soon as possible. I’ll do my best to work you into my upcoming schedule. My schedule does fill up, though, and I can’t guarantee a new time slot.
If you need to cancel a live session with me, please let me know at least two hours beforehand. I’ll charge half price for sessions cancelled within two hours of the start time.
Nope, but that’s a good question. I won’t make changes to your document that affect the meaning. In general, that means that I won’t make changes that are longer than a sentence.
I will create tables of contents or figures if asked. This isn’t plagiarism because you’ve already done the hard work of creating the headings, captions, and content.
I do. Re-reads cost the same hourly rate as first reads. But, they usually take less time.
